Detailed Explanation of Buffer Pads in Lithium Battery Industry Application
With the rapid development of the new energy industry, lithium batteries are gradually penetrating into multiple fields such as consumer electronics, energy storage, and electric vehicles. In the manufacturing process of lithium batteries, the high-temperature process is crucial. From cell pressing, electrode baking, to module forming, every step cannot be separated from the precise cooperation of temperature control, pressure control, and material protection.
The manufacturing process of lithium batteries can be roughly divided into electrode preparation, cell assembly, chemical capacity separation, and PACK module assembly. Several core processes involve high-temperature techniques, such as:
Drying and rolling of polarizer: temperature controlled at around 80 ℃~150 ℃, involving heat treatment of coated polarizer;
Cell hot pressing: The packaged soft pack or cylindrical cell needs to be compacted at a certain temperature (150 ℃~200 ℃) and pressure to improve density and consistency;
Module packaging/welding: High temperature welding or heat sealing processes must ensure that the battery cells are not damaged;
Laser welding and final inspection aging station: require thermal isolation and anti slip positioning to avoid heat diffusion to sensitive areas.
In these processes, high-temperature buffer pads play multiple roles such as insulation, buffering, protection, and support, and are key auxiliary materials for improving product yield and process stability.
Cell hot pressing process: the core application scenario of high-temperature buffer pads
After the packaging of soft pack lithium batteries or power batteries is completed, they usually need to enter the hot pressing process: the battery cells are pressed under a certain temperature (about 130 ℃~160 ℃) and continuous pressure to exhaust, increase density, and ensure that the shell seal is tight. During this process, the high-temperature buffer pad is mainly used for the following purposes:
Buffer function: prevent battery cells from bulging or warping due to excessive fixture pressure or uneven distribution;
Thermal insulation and temperature equalization: Ensure uniform heating on the surface of the battery cell to avoid unstable performance caused by local hot spots;
Scratch and scratch resistant: The cushion surface is soft, protecting the aluminum-plastic film and battery cell surface from being crushed;
Temperature stability: The buffer pad needs to withstand high temperatures above 150 ℃ for a long time without softening or releasing harmful substances;
Commonly used materials include high-density silicone pads, aramid composite fiber pads, PTFE reinforced gaskets, etc., with thicknesses ranging from 1mm to 3mm, supporting customized openings or irregular structures to adapt to automated fixtures.
Although high-temperature buffer pads do not directly participate in the formation of battery performance, their effectiveness and scientific selection directly affect product yield, equipment efficiency, and maintenance costs. The following are common improvement effects after optimizing the buffer pad: improved yield: reduced indentation of the product after hot pressing, decreased ear fracture rate, and better surface integrity; Equipment wear reduction: Surface wear of fixtures is reduced, and the hot pressing platform is less prone to adhesion or deformation; Enhanced compression consistency: reduced differences in thickness and density between different batches of products; Extended maintenance interval: The material is durable, has a long lifespan, and can be used repeatedly without replacement.
Although the high-temperature cushion is only a "supporting role" in lithium battery production, its role is related to product consistency, safety and manufacturing efficiency. With the continuous increase in process complexity, selecting a high-performance high-temperature buffer pad is not only a technical means to improve yield, but also a key link to achieve collaborative optimization between equipment and materials.
